فصل سوم

۱مگر شما با مسیح زنده نشده اید؟ پس در این صورت به چیزهای آسمانی، جایی که مسیح در آنجا در دست راست خدا نشسته است، دل ببندید. ۲دربارۀ آنچه در عالم بالا است بیندیشید، نه به آنچه بر روی زمین است. ۳زیرا شما مُرده اید و زندگی شما اکنون با مسیح در خدا پنهان است. ۴وقتی مسیح که زندگی ماست ظهور کند، شما نیز با او در شکوه و جلال ظهور خواهید کرد.

۵بنابراین، تمایلات دنیوی یعنی زنا، ناپاکی، هوی و هوس، شهوت و طمع را (که یک نوع بُت پرستی است) در خود نابود سازید. ۶به سبب این اعمال است که مردم سرکش گرفتار غضب خدا می شوند. ۷زمانی که شما در آن وضع زندگی می کردید اعمال شما نیز مانند دیگران بود.

۸اکنون شما همچنین خشم، غیظ و بدخواهی را از دلهای تان و تهمت و حرف های زشت را از لبهای خود به طور کلی دور سازید. ۹دیگر دروغ نگوئید، زیرا با آن آدمی که در سابق بودید و عادت های او قطع رابطه کرده اید. ۱۰و زندگی را به صورت انسان تازه ای شروع کرده اید، ـ انسانی که پیوسته در شباهت خالق خود به شکل تازه ای در می آید ـ تا رفته رفته به معرفت کامل خدا برسد. ۱۱پس بین یونانی و یهودی، مختون و نامختون، با تمدن و وحشی، غلام و آزاد فرقی وجود ندارد، بلکه مسیح همه چیز است و در همه می باشد.

۱۲پس شما که برگزیدگان مقدس و محبوب خدا هستید، خود را به دلسوزی، مهربانی، فروتنی، ملایمت و بردباری ملبس سازید. ۱۳متحمل یکدیگر شوید. اگر از دیگران شِکوَه و شکایتی دارید، یکدیگر را عفو کنید و چنانکه خداوند شما را بخشیده است، شما نیز یکدیگر را ببخشید. ۱۴به همۀ اینها محبت را اضافه کنید، زیرا محبت همه چیز را به هم پیوندد و تکمیل می کند. ۱۵سلامتی ای که مسیح به شما می بخشد قاضی وجدان شما باشد، چون خدا شما را به عنوان اعضای یک بدن به این سلامتی فراخوانده است و سپاسگزار باشید. ۱۶اجازه بدهید که پیام مسیح با تمام ثروتمندی اش سرتاسر وجود شما را فرا گیرد. یکدیگر را با نهایت خردمندی تعلیم و پند دهید و با سپاسگزاری در دل های خود مزامیر و سرودهای ستایشی و روحانی برای خدا بخوانید. ۱۷هرچه می کنید، چه گفتار، چه کردار، همه را به نام عیسی خداوند انجام دهید و در عین حال خدای پدر را دائماً سپاس گوئید.

وظایف اجتماعی یک مسیحی

۱۸ای زنان، مُطیع شوهران خود باشید، زیرا این کار وظیفۀ مسیحی شماست. ۱۹ای شوهران، زنان تان را دوست بدارید و با آنها تندی نکنید. ۲۰ای فرزندان، از والدین خود در هر امری اطاعت کنید، زیرا این کار خداوند را خشنود می سازد. ۲۱ای پدران، بر فرزندان خود زیاد سخت نگیرید مبادا دلسرد شوند.

۲۲ای غلامان در کلیۀ امور مُطیع اربابان خود که مانند شما بشر اند باشید و اطاعت شما فقط به خاطر این نباشد که تحت مراقبت هستید یا می خواهید دیگران را خشنود سازید، بلکه با خلوص نیت و خدا ترسی اطاعت کنید. ۲۳کارهایی را که به شما رجوع می کنند با جان و دل انجام دهید، چنانکه گویی برای خداوند کار می کنید، نه برای بشر. ۲۴زیرا می دانید خداوند میراثی به عنوان اجر به شما عطا خواهد کرد. چون مسیح ارباب شماست و شما غلامان او هستید. ۲۵شخص بدکار جزای بدی خود را خواهد دید و نزد خدا طرفداری نیست.
